Projects

One question β€” what does it take to be? β€” pursued at the smallest honest scale we can build and hold in a hand.

being.0 embodiment

The floor of the question, made physical. A palm-sized creature on a single ~$15 chip: solar panels that are its food and its eyes at once, a strip of light for its state, a hunger it has to answer. We gave it no rule for finding the light β€” it had to learn to, from its own experience of going hungry, and it now runs that learned self faithfully on the chip. What is the least it takes for something to be?

Lineage

The aesthetic owes more to StanisΕ‚aw Lem than to any AI lab: machines worth taking seriously as beings, built and described with rigour and affection. The methods borrow from how nervous systems actually work β€” perception, drives, rest, consolidation β€” rather than from the usual vocabulary of the field.
